Surprised by the number of declines from the various age groups.

But for the most part those teams desperately needing the bids worked hard to get them. Congrats.

Now alot goes into the mix for the At large. Really wish USA volleyball would not have held that Florida qualifer in Jan - disaster!

On a good note I see that the amount of teams in the club division is back up.

Looking forward to Atlanta .......and hoping that it is the last time we are every here for a long time

Once again, USA Volleyball shoots itself in the foot. Almost every club and team is a huge distance from Atlanta, and yet we are forced to go there again. I really feel sorry for the California and Hawaii teams...they haven't had a west region Junior Olympics for boys in many years...I don't think there has been one in California since 1991.

Every year, USA Volleyball kicks sand in the faces of those who have participated in, and promoted volleyball at the grass roots level, in favor of those geographic areas who couldn't give a damn about volleyball. Families are forced to squander precious resources flying to second-tier destinations because USA Volleyball deems it important to play in Atlanta instead of Anaheim. And one wonders...what sort of premiums or breaks do the cities of Atlanta or Salt Lake City or Minneapolis offer to USA Volleyball to entice them to play in their areas?

USA Volleyball can rest assured that they will kill the golden goose. How many teams have signed up for 17s club division? Nine?

Perfect.

Salt Lake was very drivable for many of the California clubs and was done so in fact. .....Pretty far West in my book..... Salt lake was a b*tch to fly into and very expensive as only one major airline goes there. But I loved Salt Lake for the things to do in down time. Atlanta is very cheap to fly into and a major hub. the hotels are pretty reasonable at this time of year.

Sorry to shoot your points. My point is I just hate Atlanta as a sight for aesthetic reasons.

Why would all the southern California teams want to play in Anaheim?? We play there 10 times a year already. Part of the fun of the JO's is going to a different city, seeing new things, etc. Who wants to just sleep at home when you could be 2000 miles away.

" OK Eric, nice day at the JO's. Now take out the trash & clean up your room'.

I don't think so!

Because Puerto Rico is a separate Federation of Volleyball.

The Puerto Rican Players can play in the JO's as it is a Open tourney. But for PR to play on USA national program teams they must first ask for a release from the PR federation.

Everything is technically geared toward developing USA national programs. PR teams more than welcome to participate in the OPen division bu they need to travel and qualify like everyone else.

Here is idea! Why don't all those PR team come to the Florida Qualifier - quick cheap flight over the pond.

we went to qualify this weekend in viginia and won the bid

but that thing about the JO's in PR is that the people in USA Volleyball dont want to travel our way

and if they do it in PR there will be a whole lot mor puerto rican teams because most of them dont go because of the cost

Yea and do u realize that the east coast qualifier is the easiest tournament in the us to get a bid? And it's not like u guys won it so it's not that big of an accomplishment

Actually, you just vented your opinion, you didn't shoot my points. Based upon most people with whom I spoke, the vast majority didn't like either Salt Lake City or Atlanta. The panhandling was simply epic in Atlanta, and very, very far away for most club players. If the question is "what lovely vacation spot do we want to go in the summer" the answer is rarely "Atlanta" or "Salt Lake City." And as far as travel opinion goes, my kid doesn't choose, I choose. I'd be really, really happy if the JO's were held within a two hour drive or a reasonably nice vacation spot. But a lengthy flight/daylong drive to SLC or Atlanta? No thanks...

And I'd still be interested to see if the economy affects how many club teams ultimately participate in the club division.

why win the tournament when we won the bid

and for the americans to win over us they needed 5 coaches from difrent teams and the line guys and the refs on their side tongue.gif

Because as I said before it really doesn't mean anything to get a bid at east coast becasue it's not hard. And the team u lost to in the semifinals got 28th in the SCVA invitational(that's the biggest qualifier) so don't act like u can smash anyone when u didn't even win one of the weakest tournaments

Piterres friend, By no means am I trying to disrespect you. Way to many PR friends and I love the way your teams play the game and the passion you bring. We enjoy have teams from the island in the mix. It is a major +.

Looking forward to watching more of the PR teams in action in Atlanta

Im curious to see what happens next year.. I think that usa vball is implementing a new policy.

I heard that if you do not attend A qualifier you will not be allowed to apply for an atlarge Bid.

Meaning all those teams who do not come up from puerto rico as the younger age brackets will not be allowed to play OPEN. " Same for Hawaii"

They are making all teams play atleast 1 event then they can apply for an atlarge bid.

Or atleast thats what I heard.

These venues were cheapest and provided the most community incentives to USA Volleyball period. Other consideration is trying to have a hub airport and lots of hotels. Anaheim has the hotels but would be very expensive in the summer. In fact being a good vacation destination makes a location unlikely for JOs because it will be expensive- they don't need the business.
outside5577
i think they should just move jo's to the west or to Hawaii because there is a lot more to do there.
vball4life4
i just dont want to go back to atlanta. so are we gonna be in miami next year since the girls are going there this year
