I hear that Palacios is headed to the "farm" Stanford. But I hear that Irons (Central Cal) Niedermayer (Diablo) and Romero (South Fla. last year) are still out there and available. Any word on any of these guys or any other worthy of such high praise.

Oh. looks like Pac Pali's 17s Wilton may go to Hawaii if all goes well.

Let the games begin anew!

Zuziak no idea but that adds to the list of players like Dyer (SB) , Pliske (HiP), Scheiner (HiP), Loe (WCVC) to the others mentioned before Romero, Hackett (Pace), Fritsch (Diablo), Boyce (Surf City), Weintraub (SMBC), Duckworth (HiP), Fahn (Spectrum).. If anyone knows anything add them to the list.

Found a few more:

Nick Rivett {Renaissance (PA)} --- UCSB
Carl Hamming (Adversity) ---- Princeton

I think that many of the West Coast kids are waiting for soemone to call. They may never get that call as most of the MPSF teams are very deep with many walk on and redshirts already on campus. And many have looked at the deeper 17s class and may opt to save that scholarship money or at least not overspend for young men this season.

Fujikawa to NYU---I know both Jose Pena and Karl France Head Coach and Head assistant Coach of NYU, we speak all the time and neither one of them told me that Fujikawa was going there..Plus you don't sign letters of intent to division three schools. Its not allowed. You can only sign letters to D1/2's only. So how could he be SIGNED to NYU....has he commited early admit to NYU so that he gets in for all possible academic scholarships or has he declared early that he is fore going the signing process so that he does have to deal wiuth recruiters? let me know. Because from what we understand, he hasn't made up his mind up at all, YET.

He could end up at Harvard as he has applied. If he gets in, he will be a player there. Fahn has a shot as he is big and athletic.

Story on Fujikawa is he applied early decision. If one applies ED to a school, usually they attend that University.

i Don't see any recruits for UCSD, is that because no one signed or just no one knows
NYCityTechCoach
Hey boys just receive the confirmation yesterday....Fujikawa did apply "early decision" to NYU and was excepted. He is off the block and headed east. That's a big pick up for NYU. They haven't really had a known Cali kid sinec Eli a few years back. They are also looking at some of the big boys who ended up going to some of the Junior Colleges in Cali also. Might be a big recruiting year for the Violets of NYU.

I hear that the UCSD program is looking at Georges from Bay to Bay and they usually get the kids not quite smart enough for Stanford, Or thise players are just not good enough for the Farm. I do hope that the recruiting picks up for them as they are the worst team in the MPSF by a long shot - talent wise.

Since i live in San Diego i went to the USC-UCSD match this last saturday night because my bro played against and graduated out of the same class as the 2004 JOs MVP, Jimmy Kiellean (dont know if i spelled that right) who now is the starting USC setter. No. 13 USC won in the three but UCSD pulled close but USC won rather easily while not giving up a lead to UCSD once in the match. Even though that UCSD moved down to D-2 recently, it still is pathetic that they get to play all these D-1 great schools and probably only win 1 match (if that a game) a year if they are lucky. It would just be great to have some great talent come here and eventually get back up to D-1 and compete, I mean its not like the talent isnt present in mens volleyball today because there are plenty of great players that get turned down by these powerhouse schools and end up goin to community schools. I hope the UCSD program turns around soon and gets some talent down here because it would be great for the sport of volleyball.

Adding to that does anyone know about the D-3 situation? I heard that if they end up getting 50 d-3 schools theyll end up having a tourney like they have in D-1 for a national championship. That would be great for those who get turned down from these competive d-1 schools.

Just for clarification, UCSD moved UP to Division II after the 2000 season and is a non- scholarship (athletic) Division II. This makes the UCSD program a poor man's IVY league school. UCSD can also be considered a glorified Division III program since Division III programs do not offer athletic scholarships.

The Joey kid you speak of has a lot of potential and so does his seetter Gil but these guys are making late decisions and hopefully end up where they want. Both play for SMBC.

They certainly do offer ACADEMIC scholarships. And DI men's programs are only allowed 4 1/2 athletic scholarships anyway, if they are fully funded for 4 1/2. So for men, there is not a great deal of difference between DI & DIII. Unless I misunderstood the NCAA rules. So how do the big programs always recruit 6-8 freshmen every year? How is it different out west?

I would think that many of those schools have academic standing ion which many of these players also qualify for scholarships. Or these same schools chop their money up and not give fulls but partials to fill their roster.

I believe BBK is correct. UCSD was DIII, but now DII.

NCAA allows the 4.5 scholarships, but UCSD does NOT fund them. zilch, nada.....
Yes, they (the University, the A.D....whoever) need to get off their ******, and fund them.
Otherwise, they will, IMO, continue to be behind the pack, as far as competing in the MPSF, against a bunch of DI, funded programs.

He was at penn state this weekend, well I think he was. If he plays for stellar then I saw him play and didn't impress me at all. He's slow and doesn't have too much power behind his swing. The only reason they would sign him is because his so damn tall.

He needs a lot of work and with CSUN coaching him he will be a goo done bu tprobably not until his Sophomore year after a redshirt year included.

But with the bid tourneys just about over, there are still some quality players sitting around waiting for the call. I am thinking that call may never some for most waiting. Th ereason is that the 17s look very deep. Reports from the Nittany were that there are many 17s to go around and we already know that the Midwest and West have plenty. And the cream of that crop could be 2 Hawaiians McLaughlin and McKibben.
