c'mon now... if you have the scholarship... why wouldn't you take a shot @ a 7ft tall middle hitter???... jack played vball his freshmen year but wasn' really into it... sophmore yr he grew into it... jr year he won city champs for nyc psal and this past summer empire state game, as well as stellar sport with mike salak... unlike other people he didn't grow up playing basketball or volleyball... thus the footwork problem.. plus from his fresh yr to jr yr he grew about an additional 6 inches and he's still probably growing... he understands theres aspects of the game he still needs to work on like foot work, strength and conditioning and stuff but like someone said... you can't teach height!!!
also besides jack playing for mike salak who did play professional out in europe, his high school coach is steve hagenlocher who's assistant coach@ fordham for females and was assistant coach also for manahattan college... i think jack will pan out once he fully grows into his size and does strength and conditioning excersises... by the way city tech... i thought he fu and his tall buddy was suppose to play for u this year
He Fu, was going to play. Then came the CUNY writing test, he failed it. Tommy is never sure what he wants to do. One minute he was coming to tech, next minute he wanted to go to China, next he wanted to change his major. So in the end no He Fu, no Tommy. The one I really hated losing was Zacarias. 5'8" and the best hands in the city. If he were only 3 inches taller he might have set at a higher level. Or at best been recruited at higher level. Jumps great has awesome timing on his blocks has sick reach when blocking. Though he's small I've yet to see anyone go over him. That for me was the big loss. He Fu would have hit OH or Libero'd for me.
The team would have been sick. the lin eup would have read:
5'8" OH NYC
6'4" RS CA
6'6" MB NYC
6'1" OH BRKLN
6'8" MB St. Vin
5'8" Str NYC
5'9" Lib Bx
That would have been my starting line up. Lost all that over one test. No one would have stopped Donovan. Zac finally learned how to release his sets higher, faster and with tempo. Two both sides! He Fu was a using tool machine. We ran so many tooling drills he knew every which way to tool a block from every where. Sean was becoming quicker with his middles, and so was Kofi. Wow what a find. 6'8" middl efrom sait Vincent's in VI. what a god send. Would have allowewd me to move Shasow backt to outside.
That was then this is now. I ahve a bunch of kids who have never played the sport before. We have yet to win a match, took a few sets but no match, and well, recruiting isn't going so well. School doesn't have much of an appeal. Kids come to see it and like me as a coach, love the drills we run in practices but don't lik ethe school. i'll make it happen. You'll see. give me a year.

speaking of being like 7 feet tall....at my school, there is a junior who just transfered from the arizona area and this is his first year playing vball..(kinda sux) so obviously he pretty uncoordinated but hes gettin better..the thing is..is that he is 6'10"....wow....not only that but he is supposed to become 7'2 at his max hieght...if he gets good, he would be unstoppable..the question is....say you have a 7 footer whos uncoordinated and hasnt played for a long time, and than you have a 6'3 middle who has experience.....WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE to have play for you???
BOTH...if I had to pick one I'll take the experience over height...Plays better at the end. If it wre for club or high school, height. Pure intimidation factor.
