Name better middles in the state then Charlie. Chris Esser and Josh Bleck (if that is the junior Arrowhead middle with the fro) may be, and both of those are debateable. I have not seen Fro play this year, but have heard good things so far, so he may be also (he deffinately has the potential, but as you said, is unaggressive). But other then that I'm pretty sure there are no better middles in the state, and those top four all have their matches that they are better or worse then the others. I'd say top four in the state is pretty premier. Charlie also has one of what I would consider to be the three best blocks in the state, so why would you put your best blocker on the other team's setter/right side hitter? Not to mention from what I know he has played middle all his life, so why put him at a position where he would be uncomfortable? And I'm not sure how his passing is, so maybe if it's not great that is why they use him as a middle blocker. Chris Esser has the athletic ability to be an outside, but he DOMINATES as a middle, so why change someone so dominant to somewhere they may not be as dominant at? Not to mention, they already have one of the best outsides in the state and I'm sure they have another good outside hitter, so they do not need another one.

What if im not even suppose to be in middle. I should be playing Oppo.
nothere
chris are you guys at arrowhead tomorrow?

alright saying last year was unpredictable is not a good statement at all. no one predicted us to even make state in the first place and we did then they predicted us out first round against arrowhead. and we beat them in 3 then they predicted tosa west to smash us. and we lost to them by a game. thats just our upsets there are plenty more from last year. it wasnt predictable at all in my eyes.

Okay...so who was better, the
2004 Hilltoppers or the 1970
Oakland A's?!?

I found that to be very amusing, you make me laugh laugh.gif

Now had you said the '71 Oakland As, with Vida Blue as the Cy Young Award winner, I would have went with them hands down.

I predicted you would beat Arrowhead. You can go back in my posts and check I think it is one of my first ones.

Yeah, but last year everyone knew who was going to win. Did you honestly think that Mike Hutz was going to lose? Plus he had some of the best players around him like Dan said who were very very consistant. Thats how you win games not by bouncing, even tho it is really fun, but by playing consistant volleyball. And that is what Marquette did last year, and you won't find a better leader than Mike Hutz was, calm cool and collected.

Something else people didn't talk much about with that team was serving prowess. That was one of the toughest, most consistent serving teams I've ever seen. In their last pool play match at Racine last year, the starters had their warmup game against Tremper. Marquette won 19-2 behind 11 aces. Both Tremper points came off missed serves. That's as close to perfection as you're going to get. I don't care what the level of the team you're playing is, if you run off 11 aces to only 2 service errors in a single game to 19, you've done something that's terribly impressive.
Capncrunch
Tosa West beat tremper 21-2 this year, and didnt schulte almot have 40 kills last year against marquette at state? Larry really shut him down didnt he?

Yea, schulte had like 38 or something cuz David Kelenhofer had 40 some against arrowhead 2 years ago.

But to add to Dan's post about serveing, that team had some of the best jump serves ever. you had to pray that they either missed or somehow you passed a nail and you got the side out otherwise there was no way of stopping them

Yeah Shulte played amazing against Marquette and that's why Shorewood won the first 2 games. Marquette seemed to control him in the next 3 though. Also when Drew Pickering played Marquette, he wasn't shut down either and even forced Larry to call timeouts on 2 consecutive points. Drew didn't have a good team though and Marquette had Mulcahy so it was pretty much an easy win for Marquette. Still, good hitters can have good games against Marquette but that doesn't mean Marquette will lose the game.

Just got back from our tourney, the results were....

First-Appelton North
Second-Kimberly
Tied for third-Kaukauna/Racine Park

Some comments...Appelton north totally owned Park in the semi. Beating them 19-8, 19-14. I was excited to watch that match and North had total control. Kimberly looked better than i thought they would. I conisderd them to be a solid team, however, they won the first game against north, and beat us(20-18, 19-15). Kimberly could cause some upsets to good teams, and i think they and north are highly underrated. No other teams really jumped out. I think Horlick didn't even advance to the playoff play(taking 3rd to Appelton west and Middelton) my ending comments are... that as time goes on, everyone forgets how good North is becasue they haven't seen them play for a while. other than teh first game to kimberly, they owned every team they played with ease.

P.S. Watch out for whoever goes to state for the fva, cuz i guarantee that none of us will be pushovers.(kimberly/north/kau)

Anyone got the middelton pools for next week?!
middletonvb7
I saw the pools for the tournament but I can't remember all of them...
I know our pool is Marquette, Middleton, Mukwanago, and Bradford...
It should be a really good tournament, most of the top ten teams are there.

Isn't there a dif. tournament w/ most of the strong teams in it, like both tosa schools, app north, idk tho, tahts just what the guys on A north were tellin me....
ParkHi
so let me tell you, appleton north should never be bad mouthed again. they truely earn all respect in my book. they played Amazing volleyball today and it was unfortunate that we got stuck on there side of the bracket, when the second place team in our pool, kimberly, got a breeze to the championship. and another thing, middleton looked very sharp today as well. there actually wernt that bad of teams in this tourny like some perdicted earlier.

Good tourney man, however, i do remember seeing middelton lose to appelton west...haha

And by the way, kimberly didnt roll over us, we had them the first game but blew it, and just sucked the second game.

now i really want to play appleton north, i hope they're in either the middleton or blue duke invite because they're on my list of teams to play. what's their star's name? drew oswalt?
Irish#3
ok so I dont know if its just me but i dont think kimberly should have taken second place. we had beat them in earlier pool play and like baker said they had a stroll to the finals.

Drew oswald, don't let his height fool you. He's prolly close to 5'11" but is one of the top OH in the state, but he has alot of supporting cast with the S and RS

And no offense Irish, even though i realize you beat kimberly, they put up a better fight against north that you did in the semis.
middletonvb7
Tosa East will be at Middleton. Tosa West may be... but that's pending... West Allis Hale dropped out so there's an open spot. Homestead, Catholic Memorial, and Arrowhead will be there too. Yeah we lost to Appleton West... that was bad, we played some horrible volleyball and their middles just kept tipping short. Our conference is pretty bad and it took us a while to get used to faster volleyball, I think we had things figured out by the time we played Horlick. Thanks to Park for an awesome match with us, it's much better than playing in conference. Congrats to Appleton North on the win too.
Kaukana also looked alright today. I like how their J.V. team beat two varsity squads, haha.

I agree. The FVA is no joke this year. There is big talent in Kaukauna, Appleton North, and Kimberly. North should definetly move up in the rankings after they dominated the Kaukauna Tourney this weekend. The only team who put up a fight was Kimberly(North played Park).

haha i think it wass at... kaukana??

went to the arrowhead tourney for about an hour today, and i would be extremely suprissed to here if marquette did anything but dominate that entire tournament... i thought more good squads would be there?
Marquette guys have homecoming tonight so we wont here the final results of the AHS invite unless hawks or someone else posts i guess...

middleton is shaping up to be a HUGE tournament, maybe bigger than the bay tournament we were all looking forward to..

rey u said the dark blue tourney.. im assuming thats the bay tourney right??

congrats to appleton north on the win, will they be at middleton next week? jmc seems to know more about them than his own team so im counting on him for this response.

I talked to one of the Marquette players today (pictures for my brother's homecoming group was at my house and Alex Becherer was in his group) and he said they beat Greenfield in 3 in the finals and that there was nobody else there. That is all I know.

And I'm pretty salty about what used to be here...haha.
jmcdubz004
Okay, i know this is REALLY off topic, but seeing little Haertle today at our tourney got me thinking...How come Mark Haertle didn't play for North Shore 18's? again it's really random, i just want an explanation.
ANorth8
good tourney today at kaukauna.........dont know how we beat park so bad lol. Since everyone is wondering where my team is playing next week, we are playing at shorewood this weekend. Hopefully we get some good competition there. I know you have probably heard this enough but the FVA is looking pretty good.
moesta05
Mark just didnt want to play this year. we asked him a couple times. and he came down for a tourney in chicago but he just decided he wasnt up for it. im sure everyone wanted him to play and i know i did. but he just didnt have it in him to play another club season. idk if hes playin up at whitewater or not but i wouldnt doubt it

btw this is mike moe

ouuch, nothing false about that. we did get smashed, but if u watched the game before, we got into big holes and , idk about everyone else, but i seriously had praticly nothing left after the middleton game. and then to play again against a beast of a team thats fresh, but like i said before, your right. we did get smashed.

give park some credit. he's right their match with us was extremely long. there were a ton of long volleys, and baker would have to take two to three swings every time. they are a still a great team and its tough to play back to back matches like that.
i wish we had gotten a chance to watch north play though, they are a solid team.

haha BLUE DUKE tourney as in the Whitefish bay Blue Dukes. But the middleton tourney is awsome cuz i love driving up there it makes my feel like club is here again. But the WFB tourney is AMAZING they have the best cookies ever there!... But its also just like Racine except racine has a lot more hype.

So yea Geeked for Middleton it should be amazing!

I know what you mean, especially consideirng north played manitowoc as you guys were playing Middelton..haha

I think north is a team of momentum. If they have it, and their team is excited, i honestly think they are one of the most unstoppable teams in the state. but they have a rotation when they're setters in the front row w/ one of hteir middles, and their weak OH where teams can go on runs. Thats what we did in the first match of the year and we stole one, and lost the fourth game 23-25.

greenfield08
marquette beat us (greenfield) in 3 games for the final at the arrowhead tournament. it went 25-23,23-25,like 15-10, we were really tired that final game we had 6 straight games
so marquette took first, greenfield second and arrowhead beat greendale for third
