How could you possibly decide on player of the year when most teams have only played a few matches.

hey buddy i mean its kinda like ranking the teams pre-season, everyone has their favorites with players and teams and they know players from last year, just give and few its not that hard

hey hawks10 i remember that kid from last year, how is your team looking this year, i know you guys lost a ton of seniors

don't say that, i played like crap. but thanks anyways. that was one very exciting match. congratulations to homestead on a huge win.
THE MASK
For anyone who did not make it to the Homestead/Tosa East match... YOU MISSED IT! Great match, great intensity, great atmosphere...

Homestead confirms this year's rule of PARITY
pxifaceshot01
best news we've heard this week after pat foley and mike lee goin down is pat is back in...noe nine days, we played not even a game more like a glorified scrimmage against north last night, thats how easy that was. I cant wait to see the box score after CMH rolls them haha

biggrin.gif
The Truth
So Homestead goes and beats Tosa East in 5. Guess that makes Marquette the new number 1 next week in the coaches poll. If I recall correctly from earlier posts Homestead has to turn around and play Nicolet tonight as well. Good thing Nicolet is down this year or that would have been a tough two game stretch.

By the way just so we are clear, The Mask has nothing on me. Obviously a 5 game match would have great energy and atmosphere.

For me right now the most dominant player I have seen so far in the state is Chris Esser from Memorial.
ParkHi
i agree, not that i would go against you, but still... essers performances at the past tourny compared to his at north shores club season is such a drastic change. he really buckled down and has increased his skills tremensly.(sp?) the only other thing i can think of happening is now taylor getting reconised alot more after this, coaches are gonna have there scopes on esser, which means alot of splits, which taylor loves... so its only a matter of time untill both taylor and esser rule the court, and forums...
beast5
so what matches do we got goin on tonight? any big ones that would be worth coming out and seeing?
fall7standup8
I think John Baker, Taylor, and Chris Esser should all play for the Southwest 17s, and then their starting OHs would be Baker and Taylor, RS would be Dave Maternowski, and one of the middles would be Chris Esser. That's pretty dominant right there, and then if Holzebauer gets healthy or they get some other setter, another middle, and a libero, that'd be a sick team.
Capncrunch
or they could play north shore, and maybe have hogan set or even bring liska up. maybe even neuens

"... I'm not your hero, I'm not your savoir... "

I do not wish to get into a personal battle, although I am returning a volley.

My hope was to add further insight and perhaps a different view into this year's season. I'll admit my post about the Homestead/Tosa East match was very generic, I was hurried. My real thought was, if you have a chance, make it a point to attend these marque match-ups, you won't go away dissappointed. I realize there is school to study for, practice/game conflicts, ...

haha Who doesn't love splits in the blocks?? Esser has improved so much since club its not even funny you know everyone loves watching someone bounce the ball on another team well with chris on your team... Its gets really old... yea another bouce tongue.gif

That would be pretty raw. I've never played with holzebauer only aginst him in the good old match ups of St. Marys MF Vs. WCSS but i hear he's good.

i believe neuens is a senior this year, so that wouldnt work. also i dont see why they would move liska up when that team thats going to be a 16's team is very good. it makes no sense to dismantle a talented team. i guess they would have hogan or scott from tremper set.

Tosa East wins Raider Invite. TE beat Park in 3 in the first game of the gold pool then beat Pius for the title. The TE vs Park game was awesome. Not sure who won the pius vs park game for 2nd. Shorewood defeated Nicolet in 3 to win the silver divisoin and finish 4th, while Nicolet finished 5th. Case finished 3rd in the silver for an overal 6th place finish.

Pool Play results
Tosa East 2-0, Case 1-1, Wauk West 0-2
Park 2-0, Nicolet 1-1, Bay 0-2
Pius 2-0, Shorewood 1-1, Horlick 0-2

ParkHi
park TE game was rediculously awesome.25-18, 22-25, 13-15, the third game was seriously played point for point, no better match then that. yeah we beat pius 25-11 and like.. 25-21? maybe? tosa east tho, wow... they are seriously getting the job done. there middles were doing fantastic. all in all great games in the gold bracket. dan had somemore AMAZING digs... but yeah. awesome tourny.

One thing I noticed today at the Red Raider Invite is that John Baker is probably the most underrated player in Wisconsin (overshadowed by Kevin Ceriaks, Steve Meyers, Andy Schinner, and others) and should be talked about as a Player of the Year Candidate (and probably would be if his setters gave him the ball more often). He POUNDS balls, but is very smart with it, and I'm pretty sure I didn't see him get blocked in the 2 matches of Park's that I saw today. He is also a solid defender (which you wouldn't know by just talking to him), and and he puts up what I consider is the biggest block I've seen this year (picks up the hitter's angle real well and puts up a HUGE block). He's also a real good leader.

Wish I could've played today.
libero110
overall good tournament.
nothere
we won the greenhill tourney

I did not attend any games this weekend, so my comments are based on the final scores/standing.

Pius seems to be coming around. I think they'll regret losing to CMH in conference, but I believe the Classic 8 plays a conference tourney.

Nice to see Racine Park playing up to their potential. (How did they lose a game to Waukesha West?) I agree with the earlier comment, John Baker CAN be an awesome hitter, when he wants to.

Congrats to Tosa East. I'll say one thing for them, they sure win a lot of close games. That knowledge should help them in the long run.

Congrats to Marquette on their win. Who is Ryan and what position does he play?

It was unfortunate that we had to play CMH as our first match of the season right after they had a big tournament win, but they came out ready to play and are a very good team. We do play a conference tournament, so we will hopefully get another shot at them there, and we also may play them once more in the regular season because they have one open nonconference match slot, so it would be late in the year at CMH as a nonconference game. That would be a lot of fun and a good test right before the playoffs. We need to get healthy though.

As for Ryan, he is a junior middle blocker. He was on freshman his freshman year and JV his sophomore year, so he must have improved a lot over the past year. Not sure if he played club or not.

Really? thats news to us because it doesn't appear on our schedules, and mike hasn't said anything about it. Maybe my team knows but as for me, thats news...
