Player of the Tournament: Alex Klett, #1 the libero, from TE. He brings a lot of energy to the court, plus balls were not hitting the ground around him.
A few observations:
Appleton North can serve tough. Both Marquette and TE had troubles with the floater server that was coming at them.
Appleton North had a huge block. Players were trying to hit over them and were hitting the ball way out of bounds.
CMH had a great tournament. Braun and Esser played a great game against Homestead.
Marquette showed that being Marquette doesn’t mean they will win. Too many errors occurred when playing in the state tourney.
I am surprised that TE won against Appleton North. It looked like Appleton North was scared to make plays because they were afraid to make errors. That timid game plan (game 5 up 10-4) did not work.
Overall great Volleyball games. All games were fun to watch. Losers on Saturday should not hang their heads low as they all did great.

I dont think Tosa East is getting enough credit for beating you guys. Yes I think you guys started to play timid but I dont think you came out in game three timid I think the play of te also contributed to that. they were getting huge blocks when they needed it from there middles and rey, and were getting the digs when they needed it. I dont think theyre getting enough credit for the comeback. Not bashing north or taking anything away from you guys, you played awesome and had a great season but i dont think te's win was only because you guys were playing timid.

I feel that the only reason North lost game 5 was becasue they got stuck in their 1 bad rotation when both Oswlad and Vanboxtel are in the backrow(Thats when Tosa went on a 9 point run) I was waiting for Borree to dump or soemthign cuz East was roofing everything in that rotation. However it was a hell of a game.

yes i think that separated east from other teams. When other teams suffered from getting stuck in a bad rotation(cmh in the final when taylor was back row, north when oswald is back row) east didnt really have a bad rotation. they would always have 2 or 3 legitimate options to go to and thats where they killed teams. All five hitters could get the kill when needed.

I have to agree they played a great game there serves just beat the hell out of our passer and thats why we couldnt run anything. we made to many errors to. i give alot of credit to Tosa East but i didnt like how some of them where full of them selves after the first game. it basicly came down to our ball control wasnt there.

NorthShore is more of a commitment then SouthWest. NorthShore has a much longer season and its more competative then SouthWest. it really all depends on what you are looking for and what you want to do.

We'll return 2nd team all conference outsides Dave Maternowski (sophomore) and Donald Driver (junior) as well as key contributors - middle Jack Burnett (sophomore), middle Tyler Frings (junior), defensive specialist/outside hitter and Peter Rebholz (sophomore).
On another note, what I just wrote will be 100x more accurate than what the Journal Sentinel preview will look like next year.

all tourny team would probably be as follows
Drew oswald
Charlie from tosa
luke coyle
taylor braun
chris esser
charlie bazan
steve meyer
hands from app north
rey rey
tosa libero
and kurt from tosa.

I wasn't there for the Friday night games, so I'll take your word for Walker (heard he played well plus he's always the best opposite on the court anyway) and Frohmader (also heard he played well, and he's a freak athlete). For what I'd switch I think I'd put Braun first team and move Williams to second (probably just because I watched more of the Homestead vs. CMH match then I did of the Tosa East vs. Appleton North match and in the Finals Braun was the only one who could put a ball away for CMH). I'd put Borree on second and move Schinner to honorable mention. I'd also move Svatek up to first and put Esser on second, I wasn't as impressed with Esser on Saturday as I had been with him all year long, and I thought Kurt got the better of him.
Some of these players may have had either a great Friday match or a very poor Friday match so if that's why they are where they are on his then that's why I changed them, because I didn't see Friday.
I also have a question. Now that the season is over and we all know how it ended, does anybody think moving Tim Walker to opposite from middle benefited them or hurt them? I personally think Tim is a better middle (he is a very good opposite, but a pretty much unstoppable middle). That is just based on what I saw this year though, and that was only 3 matches, so maybe it's different.
Congratulations to Tosa East, they reversed everything that had been said about them and how they choke, that was a rediculous comeback in the Semifinals.

I'm Pat Foley. I'm the opposite for Pius. The Shoewood tournament was 3 days after I was cleared to play after breaking my foot so I didn't start playing very much for another few weeks, so I didn't get a chance to play against you which was disappointing because I wanted to play against Chris Brigson.
I played for Southwest 17s last year and I plan on playing for Southwest 18s this year, but it's almost certain that I'm going to have to have surgery on my ankle so I'll be out for 12-14 weeks. Jack Burnett (jsmack8, our sophomore middle) is also my cousin (which is why he is so well known).

mike masterson is gonna very good next year. he's worked all season on re-doing his arm swing and other such mechanics, so he was a little inconsistent due to that. but with another season of club to keep working on it, he's gonna be really good next year for brookfield east. i actually think he could be a top 5 outside in the state if he keeps improving. i'm the brookfield east setter so i'm biased, but i'm just throwing his name out there because he deserves some recognition. if he hasn't earned it yet, he will next season.
we (brookfield east) return 6 starters next season so hopefully we can make a nice postseason run. i'm pretty excited for our potential.

I'm going to combine outsides and right sides, because limiting it to positions played during high school isn't fair.
OH/RS (6): Steve Meyer* (L1), Kevin Ciriaks* (L2), Drew Oswald, Tim Walker* (R1), Taylor Braun, John Baker
MB (3): Chris Esser* (M1), Charlie Bazan* (M2), Luke Coyle
S (2): Eric Neuens* (S), Andrew Borree
L (2): Cheever* (L), Klett
Coach: Hanneman
*denotes starters
Some things I feel like I should clear up... after watching Friday night, though they got handled pretty well, I've determined that Cheever is the best libero in the state going into next year in terms of reading hitters, being in defensive position, and getting controlled touches on balls. If he improves just a bit in serve receive, he'll run away with this (despite competition from the sophomore liberos, Toli and Danny). There's been a lot of love for Al Klett lately, and while I think he played well all in all, Appleton North picked on him in serve receive and was just pounding balls in his direction that were flying every which way. Granted, they were hitting the ball VERY hard, but I think he has the ability to control those balls under normal circumstances.
Also, I figured it's understood that you don't name players/coaches from your own team, hence why I didn't name Brock as my coach. I respect Hanneman a lot in how he runs his team/how they bond on the court.
EDIT: Another option would be running a 6-2, with Borree as the second setter and Baker as the second opposite, putting up a huge block on the opposing outside.

Rey I think you asked earlier who got player of the year for conferences. Big 8 was Danny Fairfield (Fort Atkinson) and Bradie Williams (Middleton) as co-player of the year.
And while I'm at it...
Middleton loses Donovan Harder (MB #12), Jeff Hilmanowski (OH #6), and Bradie Williams (S/OPP #7).
We return four all conference selections.
Junior Peter Wong (S #4), Junior Zac Beal (OH # 3), Sophomore Dane Maier (MB #13), Sophomore Casey Koenig (L #16).
Also bring up a really good freshman class this year including a 6'5 outside hitter Michael Owen. His brother was Tim Owen one time Big 8 conference Player of the Year (two years in a row) and led Middleton to the state semifinals in 1999 where they lost to Marquette in 5.
and we all know Park will be very good and Tosa East will still be strong.
