Tremper might be the worst team in the history of the boys state tournament to make it.

I think I read somewhere that they finished 7-7 in conference play. My freshman year, in 2004 Burlington came into the state tournament either with a 7-7 or 6-8 record. I'm not sure if thats right, but i knew that they either didn't have a winning record or it was like one game above .500.

this may be true but burlington plays in a much more competetive conerence than trmeper does now.

I really cant believe how many people are picking Marquette to either lose to north or tosa east, you people forget on thing...they are still marquette, for that reason alone i have trouble seeing them lose at least until they play homestead in the finals (i still would like to see thme lose to app. north, but im not so sure that will happen)
jmcdubz004
Does anyone know if the final is on t.v.?? I know last year it was on FSN, but it wasn't that day i dont' think....hmm i could be wrong, i do remember watching it tho.

im gunna have to split the winnings with them probably

My State Predictions

Quarterfinals

Marquette over Appleton North in 5- This match up is much like the last years Shorewood and Appleton North match. Both have good teams. Will be a thriller like last year.

Tosa East over Middleton in 4- I think Middleton making it as a #3 seed will come out on fire in the first game but then in games 2-4 Tosa East will slowly pick them apart.

Catholic Memorial over Kenosha Tremper in 3- Congrats to Kenosha Tremper on making it to state but not being a strong team, CMH will beat them easily.

Homestead over Greenfield in 4- Same prediction as I said for the Tosa East and Middleton match up but probably a little better level of play.

Semifinals

Tosa East over Marquette in 5- This will probably be the best match of the tournament with both of the teams being strong. This match will be similar to the Marquette and Shorewood match last year at State. Marquette will catch fire and win the first two but then will come Tosa East from behind.

Homestead over Catholic Memorial in 4- With Homestead having some tough senior power they will win. But watch out for Catholic Memorial next year.

Finals

Homestead over Tosa East in 4- It will be a well fought match by both teams but in the end Homestead will want it more then Tosa East.

Can't wait for tommorrow.

The State Final will probably be televised on FSN again a week or two after. There will probably be a commentary as well. As for Marquette losing to anyone in 5, I just want to throw this out there:
Marquette, as far as I know (in at least the last 4 years), has never lost a 5 game match.
bring the heat
I think i posted once before and i feel like its an appropriate time to post again. Ok, am I the only one who feels that Appleton North is eerily reminiscent of last year's Burlington team? Real athletic players, strong offense, high energy, fun to watch hitting lines. Doesn't that sound a lot like Burlington from last year? And that team lost to Marquette in 4. And why is that? BALANCE. I don't care if they have an olympian outside and maybe one or two other hitters, it is very hard to win a match when everyone knows where the ball is going to go. From what it seems, A. North has two big guns and not much going on in the middle. You expect a balanced team like marquette to lose to them? Think again. Other examples of athletic teams with emotion losing to balanced teams: Tosa West two years ago. Tried to play with emotion and ride pickering to the finals but ran into a BALANCED marquette offense. Marquette 3 years ago, came in hot after being Tosa East for the first time that year, wanted to ride Mulcahy and Severs to the finals got upset by the more BALANCED horlick team. and yes horlick was more balanced with gilboy, haertle, sederburg, torgeson and some ogor middles. The point is, one of two teams will win state. East or Marquette. Becuz they both have balance.
btown2
App. North vs Marquette-Marquette in 4

Tosa East vs Middleton-Tosa East in 5

CMH vs Tremper-CMH in 3

Homestead vs Greenfield-Homestead in 3

2nd round

Marquette vs Tosa East-Marquette in 4

CMH vs Homestead-CMH in 5 ver good games(i think this will be the best game of the tourney)

Finals

CMH vs Marquette-CMH in 4

Okay, here are some of my predictions...
The Quarterfinals--
Tosa East over Middleton in 4-Tosa East will take the first two, Middleton will win one, but that's it. Like that other guy touched on, Middleton is probably the most dangerous team here in the tournament since not a soul is giving them a chance, so look for them to come out of the gates in a fury.

Appleton North over Marquette in 5-Sorry Hutz, but I feel that Marquette will come into the fifth game with the attitude of them never losing a game 5 in a long time, and Appleton North will capitalize and become the first Fox Valley squad to reach the Final Four since Neenah in '01.

Homestead over Greenfield in 5-Greenfield's ginormous front will frustrate Homestead's front, but Homestead will adjust and grind out a tough one.

Catholic Memorial over Kenosha Tremper in 3-yes, Scott Marita is good, and supposedly their middle is too, CMH is good all around. They will be too much for Scott and his middle.

The Semifinals
Appleton North over Tosa East in 5-Tosa East is pretty good, i'm not going to lie, but Appleton North has something to prove, and once again, they will prevail.

Catholic Memorial over Homestead in 5-correct me if i'm wrong on this, but I believe that CMH has had its way with Homestead this year, and their way will continue.

The Finals
Appleton West over Catholic Memorial in 4-Catholic Memorial's good, but not as good as Appleton North, the most athletic team in the state.

I'm diggin all of the predictions. Especially with Appleton West coming out of no where and winning the State Championship. I thought you had to be in the state tournament to do that, but what do I know. Just kiddin big guy. I just hope Marquette wins the quarterfinal because I'm comin back from Loyola on Saturday morning to see the Semifinals and Finals (I'll be there either way). As for Marquette losing in 5, who knows. We'll find out in less than 24 hours I guess. My mom and little brother are goin to the game and my little brother is going to be texting me after every game to keep me updated.

HAHA I love Hutz sarcasim about Appleton West coming outta nowhere and winning the state championship, man i didnt even catch that. Brilliant... I stay with my ealier prediction and that is, whoever wins the Quette North matchup will take home the gold. Pretty sure i have no hopped on the bandwagon, i have been trying to tell you southern players that North is underrated all year. Im friends with some of their players and i cannot wait to see DJ Van Boxtel hit over someone like he did over Racine Parks triple block at our tournament this year!!!

still just watching
First, best of luck tonight to everyone who gets the honor of playing in the state tournament.

Tonight also look around the fieldhouse tonight and wonder if the boys state tournament has gotten to big for Waukesha West high school. This is something I have been pondering for the past couple of years, maybe it was because last year I had to sit on the floor since I showed up at 5:30 not 5. Remember its XX not single X that will make you really late. I was thinking about other sites, maybe other people have some suggestions on other places where the tournament could be held if it is now too big for Waukesha West. Some other venue's I think could be good are - Pius, Homestead, Kaukauna, the Al McGuire Center. I am sure there are more, remember it needs to be big enough to hold two sport court courts, have a large seating area, good sized concession area, and plenty of parking.

I am a big believer that crowd support makes your team better. One team who probably will not have a big following tonight is Homestead. Their football team plays in the final four of football at 7 pm in Oshkosh. Probably will not matter but could be an advantage for Greenfield.

Have to agree, after last year the tournament has outgrown the facility. I believe that there were 4500 to 4800 people there last year. McQuire Center would be a good location. I did hear a rumor that the actual dates were going to change and the location move to Green Bay to coincide with the girls championships.
bring the heat
here is how its gonna play out:
Marquette v. Appleton North: Marquette in 4. Marquette jumps on North the first two games, loses focus in the 3 then pounds them in the third. NOT the biggest match of the tournament.
Tosa East v. Middleton: Raise your hand if you didn't know Middleton had a volleyball team? Tosa East in 3.
Homestead vs Greenfield: Greenfield is a weird team to play against, they give some match up problems. I am very tempted to call the upset here. One reason is if greenfield can shut down meyer, they win. Cuz i dont know if Shinner has ever backset a ball in his life and greenfield's blocks wont get spread around enough to create openings for steve. Im gonna jump on his POY bandwagon and say they win because Greenfield wont stop him.
Tremper vs. CMH: CMH always makes it to the state finals....except for last yr. CMH in 3

Marquette vs Tosa East: This is the biggest match of the tournament! These two schools just dont like each other. If you don't know what im talking about, attend a basketball game between the two schools. Don't bring the children cuz their virgin ears will be corrupted. Marquette wins this one in 5. Tosa East is a tough team if they get rollin at the right time. Solid middle attack, Rey has the potential to be the most dominating opposite in the game (keyword potential cuz he hasnt put it all together yet), a solid outside attack led by C. Williams, and a smart setter. Marquette wins cuz of Liska's height. Marquette will score over half of its pts when Liska is in the front row because he is just too small. They will tool and lineshot him all day and make the poor kid cry. 20 bucks marquette worked on two things in practice this week? Line shots and toools to beat Tosa East. And triple blocking to shut down Steve and beat Homestead.
Homestead vs. CMH: CMH in 5. CMH has the better coach, the better middle, and the better setter. Steve doesn't get shut down in this match, just gets tired from having to get 60 sets in one match and cant put the ball away at the end. Nuens will spread the ball around enough to keep Homestead's blocks guessing. Taylor and Esser will win this.

Marquette vs CMH: Marquette in 3. They will never lose a state final with Larry as head coach. Thats a fact. He gives that team way too much confidence.
MUWarriorz10
I, being the Marquette fan that I am, would LOVE to play at the Al McGuire Center. I like the idea of the greenbay state as well, however i feel that that attracts less people. I know that me and some of my team mates went up for both of our girls state games, but not going to lie its a road trip and a half. I think the AL McGuire is close enough for everyone, it has enough seating, good concessions area too... and also the atmosphere would change. Instead of playing in a sport courted high school gym, you could be playing at a college venue. Wis, you said the dates would change.. meaning... that we would start a week earlier like the girls??

WIAA if your listening, West is nice, but the sport is growing, and we NEED a new venue.

i wanted to make a comment about taylors and truths post about the worst team to ever make it to state. i would say that it was waukesha south my senior year back in 2000. i dont even think that they had a jv team at the time. they were horrible and i dont think they scored past 5 points, that was without rally and only up to 15. our backups were in by the second game.

That is what I heard the season would start a week earlier. A Girls HS coach I know said it was brought up. The way the WIAA does things it may take years to happen. They may be waiting for boys to be able to split into divsions also. The WIAA does bring up a lot of ideas and then do nothing on them.

That would be sweet if it was in Kaukauna, but considering theres only 1 team that goes to state thats within 100 miles of Kaukauna, i doubt that will ever happen, But it would be sweet! I think that Homesteads gym could do it. They have a really nice gym with nice lighting(unlike some that blinds you when looking for a ball)

DIB! Whats crackin?!?!?

ok but anyway, i don't want the venue to move. Mainly because it gets insanely loud in there and i love it. Its smaller and everyone crowds around the courts just like a huge game at nationals. Personally i think its awsome with the volume and the crowd all around the court. Its magical i wouldn't want it anywhere else

i wanted to make a comment about taylors and truths post about the worst team to ever make it to state. i would say that it was waukesha south my senior year back in 2000. i dont even think that they had a jv team at the time. they were horrible and i dont think they scored past 5 points, that was without rally and only up to 15. our backups were in by the second game.
i wanted to say whats up to my pius boys, and since i will be attending the games tonight with Autumn and the babys momma and since i think i know who truth is; truth should i bring your shirt tonight because i still have it?

Chris Dibb... comin' out of nowhere, claiming to know The Truth. Dibb, I'll find you tonight, and we'll chill for a bit. Have your phone on you.

The Finals
Appleton West over Catholic Memorial in 4-Catholic Memorial's good, but not as good as Appleton North, the most athletic team in the state.

the b east
appleton north wins in 5! i wish i could have seen that match
small OH
WOW.

Game 1: 25-21 Appleton
Game 2: 25-20 Appleton
Game 3: 25-21 Marquette
Game 4: 25-20 Marquette
Game 5: 15-13 Appleton

Appleton was really pumped throughout the match. OH #3 (number?) I think had a great match.

Marquette missed serves and didn't pass very well, Walker played well.

Game 5 went back and forth for a long time, Marquette was up 13-12 then gave up a lift, a hit into the net, then a tip on a Marquette overpass ended it.

- I think Appleton will take it all.

Anyways, great matches to all. Congrats to Appleton North. Nice season to the Marquette boys. Congrats to the other winners. I'll see you all tomorrow.

PS.. Taylor.. you didn't hurt yourself too bad, did you? Or just a bruised ego? biggrin.gif
MUWarriorz10
haha ok my turn to share my side of the story haha.. being one of the few ds's in the world that has never been faced, i had always thought it would be the most demoralizing thing ever... haha i made a perfect read on the kid and actually just the ball went right through my hands.. i thought it was hilarious though haha... so whatever, we got the win... and hey btw.. there were 3 hits on my face job (thats a dig son :-D)

haha goodluck to everyone tomorrow
Brauner4
hahaha dan funny joke, i was having waaaaaaaaaaay to much fun to get embarassed! hahahaha
beast5
that oswald kid is good. real good. just thought i'd add that here. oh, and van boxtel on those 2 balls was money. the block went with the middle fake everytime, and van boxtel had it wide open. that match tomorrow is gonna be real fun to watch against t'east.

any other players or things that caught people's eyes tonight?
fall7standup8
Ummmmmm, Ryan Lehman 2nd Team All State and Esser, Frohmader, and Bazan (not to mention Taylor, but he's not a middle) all left off 1st and 2nd Team All State?! I'm honestly dumbfounded. Biggest joke EVER maybe?
ParkHi
ha ha for those he dont know... taylor was going nuts the entire game. so he is serving right... and the tremper libero shanks it, and taylor tries some amazing celebration dance, and since his shoes are ripped, he busts his stuff straight to the ground. both the down and the up ref start cracking up. so he gets up, shows us his shoe is messssed up.. and goes back to serve.

oh, on the next serve.. he packs a kid, just for them to play it up, and then CMH's opp blasts trempers guy nasty style. that is all

ha ha just messin taylor, good luck tomorrow man.
Brauner4
hahaha Thanks Bake

PS: I Might be reppin some of Bakers Kicks tomorrow.

Ok guys i'm done posting for the night, See you all tomorrow 10:30 baby!!!
