Balboa's always a save bet. Scvc will be there with em and probably mb surf and ocvc. not sure about puerto rico teams if they'll still be good. Other parts of the nation i know lightning and north shore will probably be up there again with st. louis hi-p. Pace bootlegger maybe. It's a good division with some promising talent.

Check the forum about switches in 16s, 17s, and 18s. Good bit of change going on.

Anyway pretty much all the teams on the original list, minus OCVC who lost almost every good player, and plus Santa Barbara who looks to be a top competitor with some big improvements and some players playing down who were on the 16s last year. Best bet for top 4 in So Cal would probably be

1/2. Balboa Bay and SCVC, pretty interchangeable
3. Santa Barbara
4. MB Surf

Past that I'm not really sure, Pali was ok last year and I've heard they improved a bit, so you could consider them up there. High Line was good last year but their star player Erik Reed left and went to MB Surf.

Nationally West Allis will be neck and neck with Balboa and SCVC, seeing as they combined with NSMVC to make what's basically a midwest all star team.

And about Puerto Rican teams, supposedly (obviously not sure though) a ton of players from Guaynabo Mets, Torrimar, Naranjito, and Pitirres all went to Borinquen Coqui, and of course this is the age where a lot of the best players leave club to play on the Jr. National team.

I was just wondering if any other team from the midwest can be a threat this year, Ultimate, Spri, or Hi-P, or even if there are any East Coast teams that mite surprise anyone this year other than Pace Bootlegger

Ultimate i will never see contending for nationals. Their a scrappy team but they wouldn't do well against cali teams. Spri always looks good to me but they always choke late in tournaments, so not too sure about them. Hi-p will still be hi-p but i dont think they will be as good... there's gonna be some switching around in that club for the 16's year seeing that the 2's team was seeded higher then the one's team at nationals, and in my opinion looked better. East coast i don't see anyone coming close to pace... not much else out there... pitt elite flordia suns.. not sure if these will contend, and not sure who else would. I say pace for east coast.

The way I see it it's between So Cal teams and West Allis this year. Puerto Rico COULD be a threat to the other teams but I don't see them being as big a presence as in past years. High Performance was decent last year, but teams like Balboa Bay and West Allis disposed of em very easily at JOs and most people I talked to said the 2s were better than the 1s.

There's a good number of position changes so any attempt at a list like this would end up pretty bad. Also a lot of improvements over the summer that are only known among clubs. Also there are of course very few standout opposites and liberos so making a list would be horribly incomplete.

The positions that we can at this point make a (kinda) solid list for is probably outside hitters, setters, and middles. If we only look at SC for outsides, then

Chris Orenic (SCVC)
Dillon Hoffman (Balboa Bay)
Nick Porterfield (MB Surf)
Kyle Baily (Balboa Bay)
Kevin Inlow (SCVC)

Nation wide is really tough, so just the best ones outside so cal.

Trevor Novotny (West Allis)
Peter Hutz (West Allis, NSMVC last year)
Angel "Fafe" Perez (Torrimar)
Diego Rodriguez (Pitirres)
Pace outside

For setters nation wide I'd say

Parker Brown (Balboa Bay)
Michael Mullahey (SCVC)
Michael Schneck (West Allis, NSMVC last year)
Jackson Carr (MB Surf)
Pace Bootlegger setter

Also one to mention, I'd include Ryan Sharp who is a class of 2012 player but he's playing for MB Surf 17s because of age.

Middles

New West Allis middle, formerly on North Shore
Holden Ploch (Santa Barbara)
Jack Reed (Balboa Bay)
Roberto Hurtado Fiel (Guaynabo Mets)
Nick Olson (West Allis)

An attempt to make an opposite list would probably end up including 2 people from a couple teams since there are so few so there's no reason to even try. For liberos the only ones I can think of who stand out are Brooks Varni (SCVC), the twins on Balboa Bay, and Parker Boehle (MB Surf), so we'll have to wait and see on that one.

EDIT: In liberos Luismi Bertan (Torrimar), can't believe I forgot about him. Still doesn't make it 5. Actually I guess it does since there are two twins but they're practically the same player so I'm waiting for another before a list could be made laugh.gif .

so west allis and NSMVC combined? wow did not see that coming. but last year both of them were seemed about equal. assuming they just took 5 or 6 best players from each team hwo much better do you think they will be compared to last years teams?

Depends on who they're playing. It'll be better than West Allis last year for every team but SCVC, who it will be better than NSMVC but not West Allis. West Allis got huge points purely off of match ups when they played. They'll lose that but all in all they'll be better.

Also to scvcman18181- Sweet Michael. You're not fooling anyone.

yea i agree with that. they will match up with everyone very well, and they have good players at all positions if some of the north shore players go over. im not sure how there defense will be. not sure how good the outsides can pass and not sure if they have a good libero. but even if the defense is OK to good, they'll get by with the offensive weapons that they have.

Well what I'm saying is they're going to lose their match up advantages against SCVC, but they're going to get better, with Mike Schneck setting, two 6'6-8" middles, and Trevor Novotny and Peter Hutz at outside. Should make for some interesting matches since they've basically got a midwest all-star team going there.

He was NSMVC's backup setter I think, he set at A1 but he's mainly an outside. He'd be a fool to play anything but outside, the guys a huge force in the front row.

Did they change the tryout dates in Wisconsin over the last couple of years? I thought Wisconsin tryouts were in November? So nothing is official yet correct?

Yes correct. I have been thinking the same thing. Though it is likely that there will be switching between a few players nothing is set in stone until late November. However I assume that the Wisconsin players would be more concerned about winning a state championship then trying to figure out which club they will play for because tryouts are a long ways away.

Yeah I believe the first day of tryouts is about the 21st, a week after State finals.

Madison Haydon outside hitter on Highline 16-1s is pretty good
Kyle Palmer is a 6'6'' middle on Balboa Quicksilver maybe he can surprise some people

Ya Madison was pretty good last year. Maybe not on par with the others on the list, and he was overshadowed a bit by Erik Reed on High Line, but he's good.

And I heard Balboa's 6'6" middle was a beast but I didn't know his name and I haven't seen him yet so I just didn't think to include him considering I heard that Jack Reed got pretty ridiculous.
