They played liked crap that last match against nequa, and it would suck to be a senior on that team going out like a baby. Way to go. This post has been edited by vball...eh: May 31 2008, 07:08 PM |

Way to go. i know exactly, you think we (neuqua) were excited to play in 3rd place after playing terrible against BG and losing a chance at the title. nobody wants to play for 3rd and in that match providence played well neuqua just legitimately out-blocked and out-played them. i think everyone can agree that it really blows that WWS won again though, definitely a downer |

I saw the final and was HUGELY underwhelmed by BG. The did have a super easy road to the final 4 (hardest match was WARREN) but how they beat Neuqua I have no idea. They have bad passing and only 1 legitimate hitter in Ascher. Everyone else just tools. I haven't seen WWS play this year but I've played against almost everyone on their team during club season and they all really played above themselves today. Especially Samp; I've never seen him play so well. Part of it might be that BGs middles were absolute garbage but either way he had a great game. I can see how WWS is prone to collapses where they lose a lot of easy points, which happened in the first 20 points of game 2, but besides that they played clean, power VB and really looked unstoppable. They showed no weakness. I hate to say it but they certainly deserved the title. What pisses me off is that WWS only graduates ONE person: Hardek. They are going to be insane next year. -------------------- Do Work.

Actually WWS graduates 2 players.
And I agree that people shouldn't discredit them. They played well (or well enough) when it mattered. Do any of you think that one of the losing teams was more deserving? I don't. What I can't believe is how BG got that far. I think I would have been pissed if they won because they had like one hitter. |

Well you have to realize that they were #1 and they wanted to win state so bad. Those dreams died for them like 4 hours before the 3rd place match so they were still upset about not going all the way. It's not like the 3rd place game matters anyway... I get the feeling they were caught sleeping/looking ahead this morning against WWS and they knew it. I saw the final and was HUGELY underwhelmed by BG. The did have a super easy road to the final 4 (hardest match was WARREN) but how they beat Neuqua I have no idea. They have bad passing and only 1 legitimate hitter in Ascher. BG deserves a lot of credit. They beat the teams they needed to to get to the Final (Sectinonal match ups arent their fault). They just ran out of gas vs. WWS. they actually usually pass really well. Their serve recieve fell apart. They flat out out played Nequa in the morning. They belonged. WWS was just better, played nearly flawless. |

Whoever won the WWS v Provi match was going to win state and WWS won so you have to give them credit they were the best team that day even though it was a close game.
The thing that sticks out the most is that the kids who play club together usually do real well look at in my opinion the top 3 teams in the stateand then buffalo grove who finished 2nd, all played club ball together. WWS always have all of their players at Spri which no matter which level or age group you play with they are all in the same system. It is a great idea by the coach or the kids whoever enforces it. (the only problem is can you imagine if you wanted to play HS volleyball and couldnt afford club and went to WWS could you even make the team?) All of Provi plays Ultimate but all dont do the same thing from watching them. GBN all played shoreline witch did OK in club but mainly left Adversity for shoreline to play together to get a chance at a state title but came up short. Buffalo grove I think is all Rolling Thunder teams which do keep getting better over the past couple of years. teams should try and get all of their players from freshman year to play for any club to get experience. Does the WWS coach force the kids or just strongly encourage them to play for Spri, it makes his job much eaiser. |

my hat def goes off to providence they were a great team who had a great season. i dont think they got caught sleeping over wws i just think that they were too dependent on emotional highs and they couldnt keep their focus the entire match. the fact that neuqua takes home the 3rd place trophy is laughable because providence was clearly the superior team in all aspects of the game. the finals were something like 36 minutes, and one of the most lopsided point differential in state championship history, which i think is a tribute to wws and the fact that they wanted to finish it after knocking off the number 1 team in the state. 5 starters returning for wws=uh oh rest of illinois.

if providence would have left before the 3rd place game like u said they wanted to then they could still believe theyre better then nequa in their own heads but since they decided to stay n play and got beat the scores do the talking. please dont say no one wants to play in a 3rd place match im willing to bet theres about 100 teams who would love to and 4 teams who went home friday who would love to have a chance at a trophy. pretty sure no one likes to end their season with 2 losses. providence was good but they dont play a competitve schedule at all compared to the big programs. they are ridiculously emotional which can hurt in consecutive big games like that. also wheaton pretty much returned everyone from last years team and its not like they were un beatable this year and none of those juniors are good enough to make them unstoppable next year.

you sir, are an idiot. My end of year top 10 would be: 1. WWS 2. Provi 3. GBN 4. Neuqua 5. GBE 6. BG 7. St Francis 8. Nap Central 9. Marist 10. LT -------------------- Do Work.

you are going to honestly sit here and tell me you think neuqua is better? i'll take blackman over pavlick but other than that i'll take ruzich over bauer any day, both middles are soooo much better its not even a competition. Hayden Grove is in a different world than neuquas opp and gusto is significantly better than your 5'9 setter. the difference in the third place match was will, and while i do give neuqua credit for showing up to play even after suffering a loss and i do think it is childish on providences part for not caring, there is no way in hell that neuqua is a better volleyball team. i completely agree.. in no way was neuqua better.. anyone whos ever played a sport knows how hard it is to lose.. now just imagine the crippling feeling providence faced after their hopes of a state championship ended cause they could not stay focused and ready in a game i truthfully think they could have won (not taking anything away from wws cause they obviously came out the winners). you could tell even from warmups the seniors on that team had already given up and no one wanted to be there |

A great team would have pulled it together and would have ended with no regrets. It is all over now and everything stands as is, so any more talk is useless and full of excuses. Let this thread die and let a new one for 08-09 take its place. |
