Last week, we covered the story of Katie Eberling, a former volleyball star at Western Michigan University who made the trip to Sochi as an alternate for the U.S. Bobsled team, but there is one more volleyball connection in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Bode Miller, five-time Olympian, and a bronze medalist in these games (in the super-G competition) married pro beach volleyball player Morgan Beck back in 2012.

The statuesque former Cal outside and middle hitter has been a focal point for NBC’s cameras as they anticipate her response to each of Bode’s runs, but the six-time Olympic medalist announced today that he will not compete in the final competition the slalom due to a nagging knee injury.

Morgan no doubt hopes to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, so perhaps then we will be watching Bode’s responses on the sidelines instead.
