The women's national team behind first-year head coach Karch Kiraly will take on Japan in a series of matches in Southern California, July 10-13. This event is the first in the USA Volleyball Cup initiative aiming to bring elite volleyball competition to the United States. Japan and the U.S. have a volleyball rivalry with a long history. The teams have played each other 211 times since 1983, more than any other U.S. opponent (Cuba comes up second, having played the U.S. 148 times).

The July 10 match will be played at UC San Diego; on July 12 at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Long Beach State; and the final match July 13 at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children 18 and under for each night.

Japan is currently ranked third in the world; the U.S. is No. 1. In the Olympics, Japan won bronze, with the U.S. taking silver.
