In Campinas, Brazil, only one duo per country was chosen to fight for gold in the FIVB World Cup Final. In the men’s tournament, Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson continued their remarkable streak of success, placing second in their pool and charging past the Latvians in the semifinals and meeting the Brazilian duo of Alison and Emanuel in the final. Solid serving on the part of the Americans won them the first game 21-13, but the tough Brazilian team rallied back with the help of the local Brazilian fans to take the next two sets 21-19, 15-11.

In both the men’s and women’s divisions, the gold medal winners received $50,000 in prize money and the silver medalist received $35,000.
