New Men’s National Team Staff Takes Office

John Speraw spent this season as the head coach at UCLA and will continue to coach for the Bruins while he leads the men's national team.

On March 25, USAV announced that John Speraw, the first-year head coach at UCLA, would step into the vacant head coaching position for the men’s national team. Previously the head coach of the three-time national champion UCI Anteaters and an assistant for the men’s national team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, Speraw will now fill the positions at UCLA and the national team simultaneously.

Helping him complete this task is newly-dubbed national team assistant Matt Fuerbringer. Fuerbringer has achieved great success as a professional volleyball player, both indoors and on the beach, and for the past 10 years has coached for Mizuno Long Beach, a club he and his wife own. This season he also started serving as a volunteer assistant for the UCLA men’s team under Speraw.

Speraw plans to add another assistant to his national team staff in the coming weeks.
