UCLA Head Men’s Volleyball Coach John Speraw has been named the new head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team for the quadrennial leading up to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The two positions will not prove to be mutually exclusive, as Speraw plans to fulfill both rolls simultaneously. He credits a strong staff at UCLA, including assistant coaches Brad Beller and Andrea Becker, making it possible for both programs to receive the attention they need.

Previously, Speraw served as the assistant coach for the men’s national team leading up to and in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, under head coaches Hugh McCutcheon and Alan Knipe, respectively. Speraw was also the head men’s volleyball coach at UC Irvine between 2002 and 2012, where he led his teams to three national championship titles and became the first person to win the title as a player, assistant, and head coach.
