As the Cuervo Tour and the Association of Volleyball Professionals remain ominously silent about their 2013 beach schedules, the National Volleyball League continues to grow and form partnerships. In February the NVL announced their new four-year partnership with Mikasa. The sports equipment company has manufactured the official indoor ball for the Olympics since 1964, and the official Olympic beach volleyball since the sport’s inclusion in the games in 1996. Mikasa continues this commitment to the game with its partnership with the NVL, one of the largest domestic tours here in the U.S. Said NVL Founder Albert Hannemann, “The best players in the world use Mikasa volleyballs and the NVL is where the best players compete.”
The NVL has also recently partnered with the nonprofit PlayFit Foundation. Both organizations aim to enhance the lives of young people through exposure to athletics and beach volleyball. Their first event, hosted on February 8 in Miami Beach, began with a beach clean up and then moved into a free clinic taught by pros Sinjin Smith, Casey Patterson, Kelly Schumacher, and Gretchen Duffner-Hand.
Tour stops for the NVL this year include the Midwest Championships in Mason, Ohio, the West Coast Championship in Hermosa Beach, and the $100,000 Best of the Beach tournament in Las Vegas.
