USAV held open tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Team February 22-24, hosting a record 240 participants in the Colorado Springs facility. Originally, 247 athletes were registered but due to winter weather some were unable to make it. The original breakdown tallied 60 outside hitters, 57 middle blockers, 56 liberos, 49 setters, and 25 opposites from 90 colleges, but with some players unable to attend and others brought in from the waitlist, the number of participants in each position may have been slightly different. The tryouts allowed Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff to choose players for the national team, of course, but also for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Senior A2 team and the U.S. Women’s Junior National Volleyball Team.

The tryouts included skills demonstrations, scrimmages, and physical testing, including vertical leap and speed measurements.
