Four years ago, Gina Mancuso took home the Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year Award as a high school senior. Now, after four successful seasons with the Nebraska volleyball team, she basks in the light of yet another national award.

The Senior CLASS Award is presented annually to the most outstanding senior student in Division I volleyball for her excellence in the four C’s: classroom, community, character, and competition. Mancuso, a marketing major, regularly appears on all-academic teams and student athlete honor rolls, has been a Student Athlete Advisory Committee member for two years, and participates in the Husker Connect mentoring program. Not to mention she’s a two-time AVCA and VBM All-American, led her Husker squad in kills (428) and aces (34) this season, and was voted unanimously to the 2012 All-Big Ten Team.

Despite not gaining a starting spot on the Husker squad until her junior year, Mancuso has made her mark on college volleyball, and we are curious to see where she’ll go after graduation. Nebraska Head Coach John Cook said, “[Gina] understands that there is more to life than volleyball. She is a standout student and has spent numerous hours giving back to the community.” While there’s no doubt she could go pro if that’s what she wanted, we’ll just have to wait and see what this bright, talented young lady has in mind.
