After being up 2-0, the San Diego State Aztecs let a first round victory slip through their fingers, allowing St. Mary's to take the next three sets 25-23, 25-22, 15-12.

St. Mary's went on to play reigning semi-finalist USC, but the Trojans proved too strong, sweeping the Gaels in straight sets.
