Larry Bock knows a thing or two about winning. In fact, over the last 40 years, the former Penn State graduate has won 1,352 contests coaching the men’s and women’s volleyball teams at Juniata College, making him the winningest volleyball coach in NCAA history.

But, on Jan. 18, Juniata lost the legendary coach to the Naval Academy, as Chet Gladchuk, Director of Athletics, named Bock the head coach of the Navy women’s volleyball team.

“I’m delighted and excited about the opportunity to coach at the Naval Academy,” Bock said. “There are few places where I would ever consider moving and Navy is at the top of that short list.”

Bock brings a lengthy resume to the Academy, lined with 30-win seasons in each of his last 31 years at Juniata. He led the Eagles to 30 consecutive NCAA Division III Tournaments, winning two NCAA titles during that stretch in 2004 and 2006.

Under Bock, the Juniata women’s team tallied a 358-14 mark versus conference opponents, having strung together 323 consecutive wins since 1981.

“Larry’s record speaks for itself,” Trinity University head coach Julie Jenkins said. “He is recognized as one of the all-time great coaches in all NCAA divisions. It is amazing the level of success his Juniata teams have always had under him. But what stands out most for myself with Larry is the class and graciousness he has about himself.

“He sets the perfect example and his players follow that. He is the same person with opposing coaches after wins as he is after losses. Larry has many great years of coaching at an elite level left in him and the success he had at Juniata will follow him to Navy.”
