Close Quarters
By Angie Akers
Hitting a tight set versus a big block doesn't have to be as scary as it
seems. To beat the block with a tight set, getting your feet to the ball is
the top priority. Once your feet are there, you can jump straight up and
reach as high as you can. Just make sure to get underneath the ball so that
you do not push it straight into the block. Remember, the ball has to go over
the block, not into the block. Also, sending the ball deep forces your
opponent back to the baseline which puts the pressure on them to bring the
ball back to the net for a good set and spike.
